First Things First

Hello! I suppose a good way to start this blog is by introducing you to the most important Person in my life.

I’ve been a sinner since the day I was born. I’ve done things I shouldn’t have, thought things I shouldn’t have, and said things I shouldn’t have. I’ve lied, stolen, envied and hated. I’ve been mean and nasty and critical and bossy. I’ve disobeyed my parents. I’ve believed lies. I’ve struggled with pride. I’ve wrestled with fear and doubt and worry. I am a sinner.

Enter the most important Person in my life. (No, I’m not talking about me.)

I’m talking about Jesus.

Even though I was sinful, Jesus loved me. The problem is, I had broken God’s law and needed to be punished. God, being holy, couldn’t let me, sinful as I was, into heaven… the price had to be paid. So God sent Jesus, His sinless Son, to take my place.

Jesus died on the cross for me

Then, after three days buried in a tomb, Jesus rose from the dead! He defeated death, and now, when a Christian dies—when I die—they live forever in heaven with God.

On the cross, Jesus paid for all those sins I’ve committed, and now, God sees me as flawless. And, in Jesus, I am! That doesn’t mean I won’t ever sin again (trust me, I sin every single day). It means that I don’t ever need to pay for those sins, because Jesus already did that for me, once and for all. It’s not by my own works or “good deeds” that I get to heaven. It’s only by Jesus. It also means that I get to live for Jesus now—to press on to know Him, to love Him, to seek Him, and to glorify Him in everything I do. I get to give everything to the One who gave everything for me.

Jesus is the most important Person in my life.

What about you?
